About Laura

Hi, I’m Laura.  I am a 28 year old female from the GTA, Ontario, Canada.

I have been suffering from chronic illness since 2012.  The reason I use the term “chronic illness” is because no doctor in Canada or the US (so far) have been able to give me a true diagnosis.

Here are some of the things doctors have “diagnosed” me with:

Chronic daily headaches, migraines, fibromyalgia, myofascial neck and back pain, parasites, mold toxicity, amino acid deficiencies, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, sinusitis so on and so forth.  You get the picture.

This is ridiculous, and I refuse to take any one of these diagnoses, as these are SYMPTOMS, not the root cause of my illness.  I have been offered countless prescriptions for pain killers, daily catch all medications for god knows what with horrible side effects and all sorts of “remedies” to “manage” my “pain”.  (Pretty much telling me to eff off and live with it.)

In addition to my multiple diagnoses, once I refuse trying antidepressants or anti seizure meds etc (seriously?!?!) I end up being told over and over that there is nothing wrong with me, I look fine and the standard blood tests covered by OHIP and 5 minute physical examination say that I am HEALTHY.  The best I’ve heard so far is “If you don’t want to take the drugs, then I can’t help you”.  I have to laugh at that…honestly.  Sure lets pump me full of drugs so that I am in a walking coma everyday-GREAT plan guys.

Anyways, I am sick and tired of it.  Literally.  I am sick.  And I am exhausted.  And no one believes me.  No one that can help anyways.  This is why I am on this journey for answers.  I want to be the girl I once was again and not in a shell of a body that is slowly ruining my life.

I have submitted my blood tests through http://www.igenex.com/Website/ and will be seeing my LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor) in the United States on June 30, 2015.  I am determined to get my life back and prove these doctors wrong!

❤ Laura

  1. Good luck with your journey Laura – I think we are all part of the ‘carbon copy’ of symptoms and feelings. Keep up the good work with the blog.

  2. Hi Laura, I am really sorry to hear about your illnesses and hope that you will fight it! The most important is to stay positive (guess you’ve heard that a lot) and turn to a healthy lifestyle. I have encountered so many people that have ameliorated their health issues thanks to changing their eating habits: cutting on gluten, dairy, sugar etc. and especially eating foods without a label. Of course, this is really hard to pursue but going a bit towards this direction could maybe help you – all in moderation is my credo. Anyway…I will be following your blog and hope to read one day that you are again back on track and all your health issues have disappeared! 😀 Good luck! You can do it! 😀

    • Hi Francoise, thanks so much for stopping by and your kind words, it honestly helps to hear what other people have to say.
I completely agree with you as far as the eating habits go as this has always been a strong belief of mine as well. I do already follow the gluten, dairy, sugar free diet long before I was diagnosed. I truly believe I would be much worse off if it had been otherwise.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and suggestions and motivational pep talk :):):) I love your blog!

  3. Your story sounds just like mine. I’m also in the GTA and I understand exactly what your going through. Your posts are encouraging and the recipes look awesome! Keep updating us, I hope you come to a diagnosis soon!

  4. We’re from the same area and are the same age! I didn’t know that.

I am also frustrated with our health care system. It seems doctors just want to push prescriptions, rush you out of appointments, and generally make you feel like an idiot. We know our bodies best and if we say something is wrong, then it is!

I’m going through a few of my own health struggles at the moment. It’s great to read your blog and know I’m not alone 🙂

  5. I did know that we were the same age and I read a bit about your hubby and dog haha I feel like we are much alike. My boyfriend is a “man from the woods” kinda working guy and we have a cat, Button who is like our baby! (We want a dog once we move from our condo)
I didn’t know we live in the same area!!! I am sorry to hear about your health struggles. It really really sucks that doctors don’t give a crap….you literally have to be your own advocate!!!

Comment on this Post. Did you try a recipe I posted? Do you have a suggestion? I am always looking for new inspiration. Let me know, I would love to hear from you!
