An Update on my “About Me” Section

I first started A Little Bit of Laura on a whim…I had the idea to create a blog to track my journey back to health.  One day just a few short months ago, I decided to stop procrastinating and just get on it.  Fast forward to today and I’m still here and so glad to be!

I created this blog literally knowing nothing about the blogging world and not caring much for social media.  Yet now I am broadcasting my step by step journey-oh the irony.

Anyways, my original “About me” was written prior to my appointment on June 30 2015 in the United States with a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor, and prior to my diagnoses.  I was a little bit vague as to what my health condition was as I did not want to claim to be dealing with an illness that I didn’t know I had yet.  I was a little extremely skeptical going into my appointment, as I had been disappointed and let down SO MANY TIMES by countless medical professionals.

BUT, this experience was different, and the one that I hope will change my life forever.

I have now officially begun my journey tackling Lyme Disease and 3 other Co-Infections.  (I can actually say that now)

As far as diet goes, there are just too many out there to be strictly limited to one.  The only thing I want to marry and commit to forever is my boyfriend.  I think I will leave my diet options open 😉

My meals are a mashup of different diet principles and methodologies from Vegan, to Gluten Free, Raw, Vegetarian to Paleo.  I believe in listening to your body and it will tell you exactly what it needs.  (And no I don’t mean it’s in need of a giant bag of sour patch kids haha)

I believe in smoothies, fresh juices, whole foods, unprocessed foods as much as possible, and a variety of fruit and veg.  With the addition of some lean meats, fish, fermented foods, nuts and seeds along the way.  I do try to steer clear of dairy, gluten and inflammatory foods.  I will make the odd exception with goat’s cheese, kefir, ghee, ezekiel bread, some sprouted grains, but of course in moderation and only for their extraordinary health benefits.

I love everything health and wellness related, fitness, beauty, fashion, makeup, DIY when I have the time, the outdoors and nature, animals, my loving boyfriend and family.

The silver lining in the dark cloud of my illness is that fact that it has truly made me realize what a passion I have for wellness and putting a healthy spin on almost every recipe I create or follow.  I am constantly learning along the way and I hope to share my recipes, my journey and my knowledge as it grows.

Follow A Little Bit of Laura and experience my journey with me 🙂

Thank you so much for reading!

Why I’m here

IMG_1542Hi.  I’m Laura.  I am 28 years old and I live in the GTA in Ontario,Canada.  The reason I am starting this blog is because I used to be a happy, vibrant, healthy young lady with a zest for life and a love of everything!  From fitness, wellness, cooking, beauty and fashion.  Ask anyone who knew me then and they would tell you my love of anything green was borderline obsessive.

That was about three years ago in 2012 before my life changing trip to a Caribbean destination that I will likely, oops I mean, NEVER visit again.

I am starting this blog to track my journey to getting myself back to that healthy young lady with a zest for life.  I’ve sadly become more like a rancid lemon these days- all because of my declining health and inability to do the things that I love.

I don’t even remember how to be that person anymore.  I’d need to use all my fingers and toes to count the number of doctors, naturopaths, specialists, so on and so forth that I have seen in the past three years of my ‘life’. Most of which either send me away as an enigma saying “sorry can’t help you unless you take these drugs” or “you don’t look like you’re in pain”.

I am here to show you that appearances can be deceiving…and I should receive an academy award for my ‘smile and act like nothing hurts and that your head is not pounding, feel like you might throw up any second, not exhausted dragging my limbs ’ face.  It’s not the same face I have when I am housebound most of the day, pretty much every day, shuffling from bed to couch.

I will do my best to write what’s happening everyday and share healthy recipes and ideas as I go.  I am not here to gain popularity, I am here to track my journey so that I will be able to look back from where I started.  Wish me luck!
